Stalin vs. Trotsky
After Lenin’s death Trotsky and Stalin were up for andidates to gain control over Russia. Stalin was a ruthless man while Trotsky was a very intelligent man who worked hand and hand with Lenin. In battle fot power Stalin over took Trotsky by pleasing the people and harsh ruling.
Stalin:
JosephStalin real name was Iosif Vissarionovich Djugashviliwas and was born on December 18th, 1878 and died on March 5th, 1953. His father, Vissarion Ivanovich Djugashvili, was an unsuccessful village shoemaker. He was an alcoholic who was cruel to his young son. Stalin's mother, Ekaterina Gheladze Djugashvili, became a washerwoman to help support the family.Stalin was often exiled from Russia. When returned he was big part of the Bolsheviks
working along with Lenin.
Stalin was dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics from 1929 until 1953 running a communist society. When taking control after Lenin, he killed or exiled any body that he felt was a threat to his power. Stalin was a ruthless leader who caused the death of many people. He ran a totalitarian society. Totalitarianism is a form of government in which the state has absolute control over almost every aspect of people's lives. Usually ruled by one political party, in most cases, a dictator. This form of government is often used to rebuild the economy. Religion, labor unions, groups are prohibited unless the government agrees on for the benefit of the society.
He ended private farming and transferred the control of farms, farm equipment, and livestock to the government. He had the Five- Year Plan which was, his way of saying he was going to fix the economic and social problems by using command economy and collective farming. Because he took much control over the farmers the farmers decided to destroy the equipment. As a result Lenin then, had millions of peasants killed or exiled. The destruction of livestock and grain caused poverty and famine. This was known as Collective Farming. Collective Farming is when government takes control of all the farms but allows you to keep you personal belonging. The government was in control of products and prices. Because they revolted he had people sent to prison and led to death to millions of people in the Ukraine.
In 1935, Stalin started to eliminate most of the old Bolsheviks associated with Lenin. Stalin killed anyone else who was associated with Lenin or the Bolsheviks. Lenin ran a Command Economy, which, is when the government controls all aspects of the economy. Many reasons government ruled the economy is because they are trying to recover from debt, usually after a war. Command Economy usually was used under a communist society.
On August 21,st 1940 Stalin ordered Trotsky to his death. Trotsky was exiled to Istanbul because Stalin was threatened by his power. Stalin has allies in which they all agreed on removingTrotsky from the Communist Party later being killed by Stalin. Stalin was such an influence that by the end of his ruling he converted 11 other countries to communism.

Trotsky was born on November 7th, 1879 with the name Lev Davidovich Bronstein in Ukraine. After two years of revolutionary activity as a Social Democrat, he was arrested in 1898. He escaped from Siberia went to London, where he met Lenin. He returned to Russia to take an active part in the Russian Revolution. For 10 years he was a revolutionary writer and editor in Europe. During World War I, he was not allowed to go to France or Spain. Trotsky went to New York, where he heard of the czar's downfall in 1917. He returned to Russia with Lenin, in which he seized power with the Bolsheviks helping plot the removal of the Czar.
Trotsky was an efficient organizer of the Red Army working with Lenin. He was in favor of Marx also tried to spread his theories. After Lenin's death, many believed that Trotsky would be the new head of the Soviet government. However, Stalin outsmarted him. Stalin and his alliances expelled Trotsky from the Communist Party in 1927. He was then sent to Istanbul were later Stalin ordered him to his death.
